Best Digital Skills for Beginners in Sri Lanka
'Digital skills' can sound like a huge, vague category. In practice, for most beginners in Sri Lanka looking for office or freelance work, it breaks down into a fairly short, practical list — and the order you learn them in matters.
Start with computer fundamentals and typing. It sounds basic, but comfortable, accurate typing and knowing your way around files and folders is the foundation everything else sits on.
Next, MS Office — Word for documents and CVs, Excel for data and simple reports, PowerPoint for presentations. These three alone qualify you for a huge range of office, admin and data-entry roles.
From there, branch out based on interest: Canva and basic design skills if you enjoy visual work, or a light introduction to digital marketing and social media if you're drawn to business and communication. Both build naturally on the office foundation you already have.
This is the exact progression we follow in our Professional Computer Basics Course — starting from zero assumptions and building toward genuinely useful, job-ready skills.
